A question that we often get from clients is ‘How can I order documents from Macedonia if I live in Australia or New Zealand?’. Fortunately, recent efforts by the Macedonian Ministry of Digital Transformation in late 2025 and early 2026 have made it easier than ever for Macedonian citizens living overseas to obtain important personal documents such as birth and marriage certificates, property deeds and citizenship certificates.
Below is a practical, step-by-step guide (with official sources) covering the most common document types, how to request them, typical fees, and how delivery usually works.
If you’ll be submitting Macedonian documents to Australian authorities, you’ll usually also need a NAATI-certified translation. We can help translate your documents!

Improvements to the Old System
Previously obtaining documents was a manual task requiring liaising with various government departments (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Macedonian Embassies and Consulates) and required the extensive use of Power of Attorney (polnomošno) documents to have relatives or friends in Macedonia submit requests for, and then collect, copies of personal documents.

Many would often put off this task until they were physically in Macedonia given the time and effort needed to go from one office to another. It would also often require travel to different cities or villages depending on where the hard copy records were kept and making appointments with officials to obtain copies of these original records.
Fortunately, the Macedonian Ministry of Digital Transformation has consolidated and unified the client side of things since the launch of their electronic submission platform, E-Uslugi.
Macedonian E-Uslugi Portal
With the launch of the Macedonian E-Uslugi Portal last year, citizens can now submit applications for documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates online with payment taken by card and electronic delivery of most documents.

This is a significant step forward in terms of accessibility to key official processes on which many citizens rely. The new website can be found at https://uslugi.gov.mk/ with full Macedonian and Albanian language versions and some pages accessible in English as well.
Using this portal requires all users to create an E-Uslugi account and then verify their ID once they’ve logged in. After doing this, they will be able to submit a wide range of applications as well as receive official documents electronically via the same portal.

Engaging an authorised representative via a Power of Attorney (Полномошно/Polnomošno)
When an original paper document must be collected in North Macedonia, the most practical solution for Australians is often:
- Arrange authority properly
- Draft a Power of Attorney in Macedonian
- Have a certified translator translate this document into English
- Attend a Notary Public with both the original Macedonian version and certified English translation and sign the Power of Attorney in their presence.
- Have your authorised representative collect the physical document Macedonia
- Forward originals to Australia via courier or registered post
In light of the new E-Uslugi digital platform allowing clients to request digital copies of documents for themselves, there is now a significantly reduced need to have friends or family act as Authorised Representatives in order to collect documents on your behalf in Macedonia.

Conclusion
Requesting official documents from North Macedonia whilst in Australia or New Zealand is both convenient and possible. The process however depends entirely on the type of document, the issuing authority, and whether personal attendance is required.
Civil registry records such as birth, marriage and death certificates are often the most straightforward to obtain digitally. Identity documents such as ID cards and driver’s licences, however, generally require in-person attendance in Macedonia. Property records and certain certificates may require coordination with a trusted representative.
Understanding the correct pathway will save you significant time and costs.
