How does Balkan Translations do Certified Translations differently?

Previously, obtaining a Certified Translation required customers to email their documents to a translation agency for a quote. These agencies don’t employ translators directly; instead, they forward the documents to various translators for their own quote. This process involves sharing documents with many translators or intermediaries (sometimes up to 20!) – all just to maximise an agency’s return on the sale.

Once a price is confirmed, an offshore customer service agent typically from South-East Asia contacts the customer. If further support is needed, the agent relays communication between the customer and the translator. The translator’s contact details are never shared with the customer to prevent direct future engagements and protect the agency’s potential profit.

This method raises serious security concerns, as personal documents are emailed to multiple third-party providers without any traceability. Customers are unaware of where their documents end up or that their documents were externally distributed in the first place. Additionally, the lack of direct communication between client and translator means all interactions must go through the offshore agency office (typically in South-East Asia).

How does Balkan Translations handle Certified Translations?

At Balkan Translations, we do things differently. Simply send us your documents, and your translator will seamlessly guide you through the entire certified translation process. Our ability to openly communication with you ensures that any questions arising during the translation process can be promptly addressed. Furthermore, your documents are never shared with third-party providers because we complete all translations in-house. Likewise, your emails are never answered by offshore customer service agents; instead, your translator will respond to you directly.

Will my personal documents remain private and confidential?

Large translation agencies that advertise the cheapest possible prices for Bosnian death certificate translations are only able to do this as your personal documents are sent to a host of other third-party companies, often overseas, before they can give you a quote. This is not disclosed to potential customers, nor are you as the customer told to whom your documents have been sent and what they’ve done with them.

In an era of identity theft and data security concerns, this is completely unacceptable and what is worse is that it happens without potential customers even knowing!

We at Balkans Translations however will never disclose your documents to third parties as we do all of our translations in-house. This means that only your translator will be the one accessing and viewing your sensitive documents strictly for the purposes of performing the translation.

What if my original document has a mistake?

If your original document contains mistakes or errors, we recommend contacting the issuing organisation to request a correction. As translators, we are bound by the AUSIT Code of Ethics and are unable to correct errors or make changes to the original document. All information, even if incorrect, must be faithfully reproduced in the certified translation.

However, we can add a ‘Translator’s Note’ to the translation to provide an explanation of any unusual or relevant information that the reader should be aware of.

My name has various alternate spellings, what should I do?

When names or words are translated from one language to another there are often various spelling conventions which affect a translation depending on the country and language into which the text is being translated.

Through our many years of experience as translators, we know that George might be spelt as Džorž or Gjorgji, Cveta might become Tsveta or that Dimce, Dimče and Dimche are the same person.

As certified translators, we cannot correct any errors or spelling mistakes with how we believe the word or name should have been previously translated. We can however work within the confines of established language conventions to provide translations which are acceptable from a linguistic point of view.

If there’s a preferred spelling which you have in mind – please let us know! We are more than happy to work with you in providing a useful and suitable Bosnian death certificate translation.

Do I need to show you my original printed document?

Typically, we do not need to physically see your printed Bosnian or Australian death certificate unless there is a special requirement. You can obtain exact instructions from the organisation requesting your certified Bosnian death certificate translation as to whether the translator must physically see the document or not.

We are a 100% online business and all of your documents can be sent to us via the Contact Form on our website or by sending us an email to info@balkantranslations.com.au. If you need physical copies with a “wet stamp” then we will happily mail these to your preferred postal address for a small mailing fee.

Do I need printed copies or is a digital translation enough?

As most documents in Australia are submitted online, the vast majority of our Bosnian death certificate translations are done electronically and come with a translator’s digital NAATI stamp. However, we always recommend checking with the institution where you will be submitting your documents to see what they will accept.

For Bosnian death certificate translations being submitted to overseas governments or embassies in hard copy, we recommend having the documents mailed to you with a wet stamp to avoid any potential uncertainties.

How fast can my documents be translated?

We strive to provide the fastest Bosnian death certificate translations in Australia. How is this possible? Easy. You’re in touch with the Bosnian translators from the very beginning. No waiting for agencies to negotiate with unknown translators or third parties. We will tell you from the very beginning just how quickly we can translate your Bosnian death certificate.

We offer express services with a modest urgency fee so that your translation takes priority over other people’s requests. Our normal turnaround time is 2-3 days, however we will always try our best to have your documents back to you sooner than that.

If you need an urgent translation, just let us know and we’ll do our best to help you out.

Is there a difference between a translator and interpreter?

Although many people know that “translating” as the act of relaying words and meaning from one language to another, translating and interpreting themselves require two very different skills sets.

A translator is someone who translates written information from one language to another, whereas an interpreter is someone who interprets spoken words between two different languages.

An interpreter might for example work at a local hospital facilitating a spoken conversation between a doctor and a patient or at a courthouse so that a plaintiff properly understands the proceedings. A translator on the other hand, is more likely to be working on a computer translating written documents, text, audio or visual recordings between various languages.

At Balkan Translations, our team members are both NAATI certified translators and interpreters. While our expertise covers both areas, our primary services include written translations of text, documents, and other activities such as language transcription and subtitling.

Does NAATI certify my translation?

NAATI, the Australian National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, does not certify individual translations. Instead, NAATI certifies translators, who then become known as Certified Translators. To obtain NAATI certification, translators must undergo extensive work practice and training requirements before passing a rigorous translation exam in their chosen language.

At Balkan Translations, your Bosnian death certificate translation will always be handled by a skilled in-house Certified Bosnian translator. This ensures your translation is recognised as a ‘Certified Translation.’ Each translation bears the NAATI-issued stamp with the NAATI logo and includes a translator’s Statement of Certification.

What is an Apostille Stamp?

An apostille stamp is a stamp issued by a government which legalises a document and confirms that it is genuine and authentic. No translator or translation agency, Balkan Translations included, can issue you with an apostille stamp, instead this has to be done via DFAT and you can find more information about that process here.

If your document was not issued in Australia, then you will have to obtain an apostille from the foreign government that issued the document.

Do I get an Apostille Stamp before or after the translation?

So that we can provide you with the best possible service, we always recommend that prior to doing your Bosnian death certificate translation that you send any required documents first to DFAT, for the apostille stamp to be affixed to the document, prior to having us translating your death certificate to or from Bosnian.

What is a translator’s ‘Statement of Certification’?

All of our Bosnian death certificate translations come with a Translator’s ‘Statement of Certification’ confirming that your translation is a “true and accurate” rendition of the original document. Some organisations such as AHPRA, Australian Dental Council and other professional bodies however require further information such as the individual translator’s address, phone number or email address.

Please let us know in advance if your Bosnian death certificate translation requires this additional information and we’ll make sure to help you out as best we can!

Can you provide an affidavit for Court?

We certainly can. Often for some legal proceedings, such as Family Court or Federal Circuit Court, a translator is required to provide an Affidavit about the contents of their translation. All we ask is that you send us the required Affidavit and we’ll be able to have this signed. As we need to take time off from our translations to do this, and usually find a lawyer to witness us sign, a small fee applies for this service.

Need professional advice in addition to translation services?

As certified translators, we work within the confines of our abilities and do not provide legal, consular, or migration advice to our clients. Whilst we can share general feedback and experience from our knowledge working in this industry, our default position will always be to seek specialist advice where required.

However, as Australia’s specialists for Bosnian death certificate translations and other documents from the Balkans, we have many contacts to whom we can refer you. If you need assistance with locating a lawyer, migration agent, or consular office, we will do our best to connect you with the right professionals who can help.
